Welcome to Girls on the Run of Union County – a life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is “to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.”

Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships and physical training – all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.

Girls on the Run of Union County is an affiliate of Girls on the Run International (www.girlsontherun.org) which has a network of 160 locations across the United States and Canada. A listing of these locations can be found here.

We would like to THANK all the participants for a WONDERFUL Girls on the Run of Union County Spring 2012 5K!

It was great to see over 1,200 participants having fun and finishing the race strong. We are especially proud of our GOTR girls for completing their goal of the run/walk 5K! Way to go!
We would also like to thank all our sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and community participants for making our 5K entertaining and fun! Last but not least, a special thanks goes out to all the coaches and family members that supported their girls by running and cheering at the race. GOTR is not possible without the involvement of coaches and parents- THANK YOU!

 Fall 2012 Important Dates

  • Tuesday, September 4th, 7:00PM- Online Registration OPENS
  • Monday, September 10th, 7:00PM- Registration CLOSES or when a SITE is FULL
  • Week of September 24th- Season Starts
  • Saturday, December 1st - End of Season Fall 5K

Fall 2012 Coaches NEEDED

We are in great need for Volunteer Coaches for the Fall 2012 season. The following schools have the greatest need for coaches and we will NOT be able to provide a program unless we have coaches:

-Antioch Elem.

-Benton Heights Elem.

-East Union Middle

-Marvin Elem.

-New Town Elem.

-Rea View Elem.

-Sandy Ridge Elem.

-Union Academy Lower School

-Weddington Middle

-Wesley Chapel Elem.
