Wildflower Celebration: A Blooming Success at Red Barn Events!

This year, Girls on the Run Union County hosted our inaugural Wildflower Celebration, and it was nothing short of magical! As our biggest fundraiser of the year, we wanted the event to truly reflect what our program is all about: empowering the amazing girls we serve. From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that the day would be unforgettable—a colorful celebration filled with laughter, creativity, and joy.

The event was designed with our girls in mind, making sure every activity put them front and center. After all, the heart of Girls on the Run Union County is the bright, strong, and inspiring girls who participate in our program. It was wonderful to see so many GOTR families and friends come together to celebrate and support this amazing program!

We owe so much gratitude to our sponsors, who made this dream event possible. Their generosity allowed us to create a fun, engaging, and meaningful experience for everyone in attendance. The Wildflower Celebration was a true community effort, and we couldn’t have done it without their support.

This year, we had the privilege of hosting the Wildflower Celebration at Red Barn Events in Waxhaw—a venue that perfectly suited the joyful spirit of the day. With its rustic charm, stunning natural beauty, and spacious setting, Red Barn Events provided the ideal backdrop for our event. Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Waxhaw, it was the perfect location for celebrating nature, creativity, and community. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the venue made everyone feel at home, while the surrounding greenery and wide-open spaces allowed our activities to flourish. Christi and Doug Hearne, the owners of Red Barn Events, are former GOTR parents!

Our attendees were treated to a variety of exciting activity stations.. The Fairy Hair Station added a magical touch, as girls walked away with sparkling strands of hair, while the Pressed Wildflower Lantern Station allowed them to craft beautiful lanterns adorned with delicate flowers. The creativity didn’t stop there! The Cupcake Decorating Station was a sweet treat for everyone, letting them unleash their inner bakers, and the Succulent Building Station was a favorite, where participants took home a mini garden of their own creation. The Earring Making Station and Stencil Painting Station let imaginations run wild, with girls creating unique, wearable art pieces and vibrant stencil-painted designs.

A huge thank you to all the vendors who made these stations possible, as well as to the wonderful book vendor, PaperPie, who added a literary element to our celebration. Special thanks go to Sweet T’s Flowers, who filled the event with an abundance of stunning blooms. Their beautiful arrangements not only adorned our tables but also filled our Flower Bar, and it was heartwarming to see so many guests carrying these bright blooms throughout the event.

Of course, no celebration is complete without great music! Our guest DJ, DJ Jeremy, kept the energy high and the dance floor moving. His fantastic playlist had everyone up and moving, from the girls to their families and friends. It was a joy to see so many people dancing and celebrating together.

We were also honored to recognize some truly incredible individuals during the event. We presented the National Remarkable Volunteer Award to the remarkable Brianna Schwann, whose dedication to our program has made a lasting impact. Additionally, we celebrated three amazing women, the Golden/Spencer ladies, with our Legacy Award, recognizing their commitment to Girls on the Run Union County across three generations of participants and coaches. Their passion and love for this program have helped shape what it is today, and we are forever grateful for their contributions.
